Joyce VirJean Potter was born on April 13, 1930 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was the oldest daughter of Virgil and Grace Potter.

She moved to Dallas, Texas at age 3 and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.

She met her husband, Claude Bozarth, Jr. at Southern Methodist University in Dallas during a debate class. Claude won the debate and took Joyce to coffee as a consolation prize. They were married on April 23, 1948 and had 5 children -

David Bruce Bozarth
James Douglas Bozarth
Sharon Renee Bozarth - deceased - 33745807
Raymond Michael Bozarth
Virgil Edward Bozarth - deceased - 7463383

During her married years, VirJean (as she was now known) worked at Claude's insurance agency, as well as The Original Christmas Store, where she and Claude played Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. She was always interested in Genealogy and she would send her children to the park to play while she did her research.

She and Claude were faithful volunteers with the Boy Scouts and both were given the highest civilian volunteer honor - The Silver Beaver Award. All of their children were involved in the scouting program.

After Claude's death in 1994, VirJean spent her "retirement" working at various Pizza Hut restaurants in the Houston area.

In 2003, VirJean moved to California to live with her son Ray and his family, including Ray's wife, Renee and their children (VirJean's grandchildren) Matthew Soto, Cynthia and Grace Bozarth.

VirJean continued her love of Genealogy until 2011, when her health started to fail. After spending a number of years in hospitals and long term care facilities, she settled in to Meridian of Riverside, California, an assisted living facility. While there, she enjoyed visits from her family and playing Scrabble with anyone who would join her - she usually won, by the way. She also loved reading her precious romance novels but also loved mysteries.

VirJean was found unresponsive in her bed on Saturday, January 21, 2017 and could not be revived. She had a tumbler of water on one side and her latest book selection on the other.

Her survivors include sons David, James and Ray; Ray's wife Renee; grandchildren Matthew Soto and wife Jessica, Cynthia and Grace Bozarth; and great-grandson Elliott Michael Soto.

She will be cremated and ashes given to her family. Her many years of Genealogy records were donated to the Southern California Genealogical Society in Burbank, California.
