Singer, Songwriter. He started his music career in Montreal in 1960 as the co-founder of the Colonials, which later became the Halifax Three. He was most noted for being the Canadian member of the Mamas and the Papas folk group of the 1960s. With the Mamas and the Papas, he led the group onto the charts with hits including "Monday, Monday," "California Dreamin," "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and "Dedicated to the One I Love." In the mid-1960s, Time magazine called the Mamas and the Papas one of the top bands in America. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000. In addition to his singing career, he is also known for his solo albums and his work on the children's TV series Theodore Tugboat. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1996.
