LaVera was a homemaker and enjoyed watching her grandchildrens' activities and solving word search puzzles. She was a lifelong member of the Yorktown United Methodist Church.
LaVera is survived by her son, Terry (Kathy) Smith; daughter, Jerri (Danny) Green; brother, Maurice (Nancy) Carver; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Miller's Merry Manor for their kindness, compassion, personal interaction, and making her feel like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Smith; unborn child that did not survive a car accident; brother, Ben Carver; stillborn sister, Eleanor Jean Carver.
Services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, Muncie, with Pastor Peter Curtis officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Elm Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
