MRS. MARY FRAWLEY DIED TODAY AFTER A BRIEF ILLNESS

Mrs. Mary Frawley, 64 years of age, widow of Michael A. Frawley, of 614 North street, died at Mercy hospital at 8:30 o’clock this morning. Mrs. Frawley, who had been a semi-invalid for several yars, entered the hospital about two weeks ago for treatment. It was hoped that she would be benefited and plans were made for her return to her home. Thursday evening, however, her condition experienced a turn for the worse and the end was inevitable.

At her bedside were her son, J. J. Frawley, of Chicago, and her daughter, Miss Mary Frawley, who has been her mother’s constant and devoted companion, and her sisters, Mrs. John H. Gillespie, of Creston, Ia., and Mrs. Griffin, of Chicago. Speeding towards Burlington in a losing race with death, Will C. and Paul B. Frawley, sons, from Rochester, N. Y., and New York City respectively, arrived this afternoon, having taken the first trains for this city upon being informed of their mother’s alarming condition. Mrs. Frawley, cognizant of her critical state, made a brave fight to be here to greet her boys, but the Fates decreed otherwise.

Mrs. Frawley, the daughter of John and Mary Brady, pioneer residents of Burlington, was born in Burlington, March 5, 1859. She made this city here [sic] home practically all her life and her married years were spent in the same location on North street, first in the old Frawley residence, later in a handsome new home, in which she resided when taken to the hospital. Her husband, M. A. Frawley, prominent in local insurance and real estate circles, died in June, 1907.

For many years Mrs. Frawley had been afflicted with poor health, but even with this physical handicap, she bore up bravely and cheerfully and her devotion to her children was repaid with devotion equally as sincere. J. J. Frawley has been a resident of Chicago for several years; Paul Frawley has won fame in the theatrical profession in New York, and Will Frawley is a vaudeville favorite. Despite their absence from Burlington, the welfare of the mother was ever uppermost in the sons’ minds and her lot was heartened by their touching consideration.

Surviving Mrs. Frawley are her daughter and sons heretofore mentioned, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Griffin, of Chicago; Mrs. Elizabeth Gillespie, and one brother, William H. Brady of Creston, Ia. Mrs. Frawley was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Catholic church, a fine Christian woman whose passing will leave a sad void in the hearts of her many friends.

The funeral will be held from St. Paul’s Catholic church next Monday morning at 9 o’clock.
