Professional Football Player. He played the tight end position for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions of the National Football League from 1965 to 1973. He prepared for college by attending Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia as a postgraduate in the 1959-1960 academic year where he also played football and basketball. He played football collegiately at the University of Richmond and was drafted in the sixth round of the 1964 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He started his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being traded by Detroit and played for them for five seasons before moving on to the Green Bay Packers for the 1970 season. He played for the Packers for one year before going to the Minnesota Vikings in 1971. He would later play for the Lions, the team that originally drafted him, from 1972 to 1973. He finished his professional football career with the Florida Blazers of the World Football League in 1974. During his NFL career, he made 144 receptions for 2,047 yards and 16 touchdowns. After retiring, he went into coaching and coached on the staffs of Chicago, Washington, and Green Bay of the NFL for seven seasons. In 2008 he was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. Following a period of declining health due to Alzheimer's disease, he passed away after a recent fall.
