Mrs. Waugh Cannon Passes on at 75

Mrs Sultana W. Waugh Cannon 75, a resident of Jersey City 52 years, died Sunday at her home, 94 Astor Pl. Mrs Cannon had been ill nearly five months, and her death was attributed to pneumonia and a heart ailment. Born in Waughtown, NC, a suburb of Winston Salem, which was named in honor of her grandfather Albert Waugh. Mrs. Cannon came to Jersey City shortly after her marriage to John A. Cannon. She was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle of the Christian Missionary Alliance, The Boulevard and Orient Ave. Mrs Cannon with members of her family, visited Waughtown last summer and she was stricken with illness a week after her return. Her grandfather, a prominent land owner and widely known for his library, resigned after being elected to the North Carolina Senate. He was said to have resigned to devote more time to his library, which was destroyed by fire. Surviving besides the husband, are a daughter, Vivian M Cannon; a sister, Mrs. M E Morris of Greensboro, NC and a brother P.W. Waugh of Montana.
