Kenneth was born on the family farm to William and Clara Dermann.
He married Shirley M. Peterson on March 12-1949.
Graduated from Nebraska City High School and then attended the University of Nebraska where he was a Nebraska football letter winner. He later completed his BA degree at Columbia College, Columbia, MO.
Ken began a distinguished Military career upon enlisting in the United States Navy and serving aboard the USS Harrier minesweeper in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He subsequently joined the Nebraska Army National Guard 1947 as an NCO, received his officer commission in 1951, and during the next 35 years rose to the rank of Brigadier General.
Ken received numerous military citations and awards and held many notable leadership positions including that of Commander, 67th Sep. Inf. Bde. (Mech), and Ass't. Adjutant General of Nebraska.
He retired from Military service on June 30-1987 and was inducted into the Nebraska National Guard Military Academy Hall of Fame n 1995.
In addition to his military career, Ken was employed by the USDA Soil Conservation Service. Ken always had a sincere desire to help others.
After his "retirement", he was dedicated volunteer at the Bryan Medical Center for more than 20 years and a member of their volunteer board of directors. He also served his church in many ways, assisted elderly citizens as conservator and friend, and led many other volunteer efforts
