Joyce E. Rewerts, 62, of Reno, formerly of Stout, Iowa, passed away at 4:16 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at the home of her niece, Tenisha Martin, who cared for her. Born April 11, 1954 in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Virgil and Lillian May Oakes Martin Black Updyke.
She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology, was a Vietnam Era Air Force veteran, served from April 14, 1972, until March 19, 1976, then worked as a customer service representative. She enjoyed reading, and researching genealogy and family history.
She is survived by sons, Lance E. Rewerts of Oregon and Joshua E. Rewerts of Iowa; brothers, Clayton Black, and Leland Black and wife, Jesse, all of Pennsylvania; sisters, Marjorie Martin-Reese and Ann Blair, of Pennsylvania, Dianna Black of Texas, and Anna Goetsch and husband, Shane, of Iowa; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Annetta Martin Flanary; and her stepfather, George Updyke.
Services will be held at Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin, with Pastor Randy Kightlinger, Venango VNA Hospice chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in Lamey Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
