Actor. Born Stephen Robert Franken, he was a longtime character actor best known to older television viewers for his role of Chatsworth Osborne Jr. on the CBS sitcom "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" from 1960 to 1963. He graduated from Cornell University in 1953 and in 1958, received his first acting role in the film "Stage Struck". He also made his first appearance on television that same year on the show "Playhouse 90". He went on to appear on many television shows and films during his career which span seven decades. Besides "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis", his television credits included such shows as "The Lieutenant", "Mr. Novak", "Tom, Dick, and Mary", "The Patty Duke Show", "Mission: Impossible", "Bewitched", "Adam-12", "Love, American Style", "Police Story", "Insight", "Barney Miller", "The Love Boat", "ChiPs", Trapper John M.D.", "Freddy's Nightmares", and "Seinfeld". His film credits included such works as "The Party" (1968), "Westworld" (1973), "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud" (1975), "The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu (1980), and "Can't Buy Me Love (1987). He also did voice work on various animated series and video games during his career. He passed away of complications from cancer.
