Evelyn R. Alexander, 93 of Yakima, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017. She was born March 24, 1923 in Orchard Park, Illinois.

Evelyn graduated from high school in Bensenville, IL. She worked for a brief time after graduation in Chicago as a secretary for the FBI. She traveled by train with her family and all their belongings, farm equipment and animals in 1945 to Washington state where her parents started a dairy farm in Gleed.

Evelyn worked at Wikstrom Motors as a bookkeeper and it was there that she met Vernon Alexander. They were married February 14, 1947. Together, in Heaven, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for the State of Washington and retired from that position.

Evelyn enjoyed outdoor activities: hunting, fishing, three-wheeling, snowmobiling, and water skiing. She and her husband climbed Mt. Adams. She attended Grace Brethren Church for many years, and later attended the Grace Bible Church and the Ahtanum Pioneer Church.
She enjoyed children although she had none of her own.
We wish to thank the staff at Willow Springs, Brookdale Englewood Heights and Cottage in the Meadow for their kindness and loving care.

She is survived by her brother, two nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Vernon Alexander.

Graveside Service will be held 9:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home (2600 Business Lane).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to one’s favorite charity or the Union Gospel Mission.
