Danish Statesman. The first "Grand Chancellor of Denmark" (a predecessor title of the Prime Minister of Denmark), he served during the reign of Danish King Frederick IV from 1699 until his death. Following his formal schooling, he joined the Danish Court in 1665 where he achieved status. He later became a colonel in the Danish military, distinguishing himself during the intra-Scandinavian wars. In 1700 he was instrumental in negotiating for peace with Sweden during the Great Northern War. He died at his home, Clausholm Castle, in eastern Jutland, at the age of 64.
