Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served during the Civil War as Colonel of the 1st Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery, and as Chief of Artillery for the Military Department of the Cumberland. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services".
