Richard Cleary Murray, M.D. of Milwaukee, Wis. and Menominee, MI native, died on December 21, 2016, one day before his 85th birthday. He was the son of Richard P. "Jab" Murray and Marie (Cleary) Murray, born December 22, 1931 in Menominee, Mich.

Doctor Murray graduated valedictorian from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Marinette, Wis. in 1950, and earned B.S. and M.D. degrees with highest honors from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis.

He married Alice Marie Worth on September 22, 1956. She preceded him in death in 2007, after 52 years of marriage.

Their younger daughter, Mary Emily (Emo of Downtown Sandwich Sub Shoppe fame) died in 1993 of Cystic Fibrosis at 32 years of age, when most children with CF barely make it to age 10; it was easily his most challenging, rewarding and heartbreaking journey.

After completing Internship and Residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Milwaukee Hospital, he served in the United States Army Medical Corps, and later practiced with the Boren Clinic in Marinette for 18 years and subsequently in Oshkosh, Sturgeon Bay and in Milwaukee with Family Health Plan, after which he retired in Sturgeon Bay and in Milwaukee after Alice's death.
He was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1965 and was voluntarily re-certified in 1992.

He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, large dogs, golf, gardening, travel and music, especially Opera and the Milwaukee Symphony. He was an ardent fan of the Green Bay Packers, for whom his father played 1921 through 1925 with his father's friend, Curly Lambeau. He attended his first Packers game when he was seven and his last game was the day Brett Favre was put on the ring at Lambeau Field. He "loved the Bears as much as he hated them", he once said.

Doctor Murray is survived by his son Timothy of Oshkosh, WI and Menominee, Mich.;
his daughter Elizabeth Tietjen of Los Angeles, Calif.
and three grandchildren: Colin and Graham Murray, both of Menominee, Mich. and Denali Tietjen of Boston, Mass.
and one great -granddaughter, Alexandria of Oshkosh, Wis.

Our Father's body has been donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin in accordance with his wishes. Upon the return of his remains, a private Memorial Service will be held by the family at his final resting place, Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette, Wis
