Roman Catholic Cardinal. The son of Charles de Rochechourat, Count of Clermont, he received his formal education at the Seminary of Saint-Sulpice and the Theological Faculty of Paris, La Sorbonne University, where he received a Theology Degree in 1741. In June of that year, he was elected Bishop of Laon, France and in April 1745 he was elevated to abbot commendatario of Saint-Remi in the archdiocese of Reims, France. In March 1758 he became the French ambassador to the Holy See, serving in that position until 1762. In November 1761 he was created a cardinal priest by Pope Clement XIII at the request of King Louis XV of France with the title of Sant'Eusebio and received the red hat. The following year, King Louis XV awarded him the Cordon Bleue, the blue ribbon of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Spirit. In May 1764 he was named abbot commendatrio of the abbey of Saint-Ouen in the archdiocese of Rouen, France. While preparing to celebrate mass in the chapel of his Paris palace, he suffered a stroke and died at the age of 69.
