Giovanni Filbert Diaz, age 19, passed away January 13, 2007. He was a beautiful, loving, son who was always there for you.

Gio, as most people knew him attended Del Mar College where he earned his certification in Fire Fighting. A 2004 graduate of Tuloso-Midway High School, NJROTC member, he also did instrumental flight with the Civil Air Patrol, who later worked for various local businesses including NewsTalk 1440 KEYS there he worked as the producer of the Eric Von Wade Show, Common Sense, and Tradio, part-time DJ at Hot Z95, and worked off and on at Pier 99 and his last employment was at Orion Drilling where he worked hard and gained the respect of his fellow roughnecks.

Gio, is survived by his parents, Guillermo and Yolanda Diaz, his fiance, Erica De La Cruz of Laredo, Texas, his two brothers; Guillermo G. "Bubba" Diaz III (Velma) and Gherardo I. "Gary" Diaz (Blanca) of Corpus Christi; his closest Uncle, John Vargas (Jessica) and Godparents; John Pruneda (Carol) and Sergio Zambrano (Yolanda) of Corpus Christi. Gio's nieces include: Audrey Marie Diaz, Sarah Angelica Diaz, Gianna Isabella Diaz, and Sophia Elizabeth Diaz, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins from all over the great state of Texas.

Gio will be remembered for his eyes and smile. A lover of fast cars who was always wanting to cook for his family. His most recent accomplishment was when he was first on the scene to stabilize and assist emergency personnel at the scene of an accident.

Gio, you live in our hearts and we will always remember the times we shared with you. Your loving family. Kisses little brother.

Visitation and a rosary were held Jan. 16 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Rites of Christian Burial were held Jan. 17 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church.

Burial followed at Seaside Cemetery.

Giovanni Diaz was driving a 1999 Honda Accord westbound on Lipan Street about 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13 when it collided with a Fed Ex tractor-trailer near Port Avenue. Diaz, 19, from Corpus Christi, died at the scene.
