Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home Obituary

Martha Louise (Culp) Stills, 83, died Thursday, March 2nd in Evergreen, Colorado after a long battle with Ovarian and Colon Cancer. Martha was born at home June 11, 1933 in Canton, to Blaine Merle and Hazel Evangeline (Nelson) Culp. Not known for delicacy or tact, Martha met life head on and readily voiced strong opinions, giving rise to the nicknames of Sarge and General. However, she is best known for being "Mom" as she often mothered not only her two sons but anyone in need of comfort, direction or tough love, whether they sought her advice or not. Being the youngest of four, she was close to her siblings Nelson Lee Culp, Mary Lois Wilson and Kathleen Gloria Plasky, all preceding her in death.

She married her second husband, Maynard Ivan Stills on December 27, 1958 shortly after his discharge as an Airman in the United States Air Force. Adopting her son, Glenn David (Mann) Stills in 1963, Maynard and Martha shared 58 years of marriage together. Her son Dave, passed away in 2006. She is survived by her husband Maynard Ivan Stills, daughter-in-law Annina (Bruno) Stills, grandson Jesse Stewart Stills, son Michael Lee Stills, his wife Tracey (Boyle) Stills, granddaughter Megan Lee Stills, nephew John Plasky his wife Debroah (Booth) Plasky, their son Matthew Plasky and niece Becky Wilson. Her mothering gathered a large extended family with the Belleville children receiving the full force of her love. Sharing equally in her loss are Pauline, Pete, Tim and Dannielle and their mother Shirley McGlinchy.

She held a deep love for nature, which she passed on to her two sons. Over her life she enjoyed camping, bowling, square dancing, music and movies (Bambi and John Wayne being her favorites). Martha attended Canton South High School where she was an honor student and cheerleader. She worked with her brother as a bookkeeper for a AAA towing garage and later retired as a regional manager for Infoplace, USA. She was being cared for in the Life Care Center of Evergreen with hospice care provided by Mount Evans Home Health Care and Hospice. A Harpist was playing music for her when she passed. Donations to Mount Evans Home Health Care and Hospice in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.

A short graveside service will be held 11:15 am Monday, March 13th at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville.
