James T. Petty, Jr., 53, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Born in Somerville to his late parents James Sr. and Vita (Sorce) Petty, James was a lifelong resident of Middlesex.

James had a calling to become an educator and he truly loved being a Special Education Teacher for the Middlesex Community. He was gifted and well known for his talents with children; mainstreaming them back into regular classrooms. No matter the situation, James found the potential in each child he taught. He enjoyed baseball, his friends, his dog Buddy and had a passion for wrestling. He was an All American Wrestler for the National Champion Montclair State team and a junior college All American. He coached wrestling at the recreation, middle school, and high school levels, training champions at all levels.

Predeceased by his brother Theodore, he leaves behind his loving siblings; Vita Dworkin (Darryl) of Incline Village, NV, Joann Rymer (Gregory) of Easton, PA and Toni Petty of Bedminister. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews; Kevin Bobbitt and his wife Ronnie, Nicole Rymer and Jacqueline Litchman and her husband Wayne and great-nieces Isabella and Sophia Bobbitt.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846. Burial at Lake Nelson Memorial Park in Piscataway will take place privately.

Memorial donations sent to the ASPCA (www.aspca.org) or to the Humane Society (www.humanesociety.org) would be appreciated.
