Nov 1862: Bk S, P260: John Herrington transferred ownership to James R. Herrington for $1000.00, "...NE1⁄4 of S17 T41 R4 containing 160 acres, also 10 acres out of the W1⁄2 of the SE1⁄4 S8 T41 R4 provided however all these presents are upon this expressed condition viz., that the said party of the first part is to have the use and possession of the above described land for and during his natural life for the purpose of a home and place of residence..."

John Herrington died in Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years. He was the father of these sons: ,John C., James, Samuel and Joshua. (History of Texas , Central Texas Vol I, Pub. 1896
