Lewis was the son of Frost Meserve and Priscilla Nute.

On July 30, 1862 he enlisted in Concord, NH to serve in the Civil War. He was a resident of Epsom, NH. On Aug 5, 1862 he was placed as a Private in Co. F 9th NH Infantry Regiment. He was mustered out with a medical disability on May 15, 1863 in Washington, D.C. (His disability included Hypertensive Dilatation of Heart; Varicose Veins in both legs; Disease of Stomach; and Sclerosis of Liver).

About 1871 he married Sumira L. (Brown) Goldthwait, daughter of Jacob Brown and Meriam Lyman, and widow of William Goldthwaite.

They had a son, George L, and raised her children Carrie Anna & Everand Goldthwaite from her 1st marriage.

While living in Haverhill, MA he was a shoeworker in the factories there.

His wife, Sumira, died in 1890. I can't find where he was in 1900, but on Nov 12, 1904 he was admitted in to the U.S. National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. This is where he was when he died.

Age: 59yrs

Cause of Death: Arteriosclerosis

Note:
All of Lewis's brothers enlisted in the Civil War in 1862. Joseph in June, Lewis in July, and Ira & George Frost in August (one day apart). Lewis was released in May 1863 with medical disabilities; Joseph was also released with medical disabilities on Dec 31, 1864. Ira & George were both promoted to Corporals. Ira was wounded at Gettysburg in July 1863, transferred to another unit in 1864, then was discharged July 16, 1865. George was wounded in May 1863 at Chancellorsville; fought at Gettysburg July 2, 1863; was captured May 16, 1864 at Drewry's Bluff, VA and held in Richmond for a week before being transferred to Andersonville Prison in Georgia. He was never heard from again. It is reported that he died of starvation. His name is on the Civil War monument in Floral Park Cemetery.
