Born around 1139 or 1148. She was also known by Stephanie the Unfortunate (Estefanía la Desdichada), the Illegitimate daughter of Alfonso VII of León and Castile and her mother Urraca Fernández de Castro.

She was murdered by her husband Fernando for supposedly having an affair with an unknown man. Fernando spied on the two and then murdered the man by stabbing him. After realizing what he had done, Fernando begged the King who was his brother-in-law for forgiveness. He received no punishment for the murders by the King.

Unfortunately, 2 young children were left without their mother's guidance and support.
