Alexander Hedley (Thomas) Phillips was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. He was the son of Master Mariner, William Alexander Phillips (1845-1883) and Margaret Sheppard Daw (1849-1890) both of Newfoundland, Canada. Alexander (San) Hedley Thomas Phillips was never married. He was a theatrical producer who lived in NYC, San Francisco and other cities out west in the United States. For some reason unknown to the family, he went by the name "Thomas" after he began his theatrical career.
