Born in Kilauea on July 25, 1920, to Yasoichi and Shima Marumoto, she attended Kilauea School, Kaua‘i High School and Canon Business School. As a young woman she moved to O‘ahu, where she worked for Meadow Gold and then Muller and Phipps. It was there that she met her husband Fred Croydon.
