The daughter of Confederate veteran William Henry McClelland and Hattie Cone McClelland, Narsissie A. McClelland was born about 1876 in Ivanhoe (Briar Patch), Bulloch County, Georgia. She had four sisters and one brother. About 1895 Narsissie became the first wife of Isaiah Benjamin F. Melton, and they became the parents of John Melton. Narsissie probably died about 1899 and may be buried in an unmarked grave in the large McClelland family plot at Old Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Bulloch County. In the 1900 census her son, John Melton (born in 1896), is shown living with Narsissie's parents, his maternal grandparents. Isaiah went on to marry three more times (to Mattie Williams Melton, Ellen Hill Melton, and Viola Lewis Melton) and survived all his wives.

Thanks so much to McClelland and Melton family genealogists for much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions. If a closer relative than I would like to manage this burial site, please let me know. I hope someone will add Narsissie's photo to this site.
