Marion was the child of Thomas and Hannah O'Brien, who were travelling on the Titanic from Ireland to Chicago, where Thomas had four sisters who had already immigrated. Hannah was pregnant with Marion at the time, the only known pregnant woman in steerage to have survived. Thomas perished. After Marion was born, she and her mother lived in New York. In November of 1916, James Quinn, a New York City fireman who had also immigrated from Ireland, became her stepfather. Her mother's second marriage produced her halfbrother, James, Jr. Sadly, Marion lost her mother in the flu epidemic of 1918. Marion's husband, Willie Hanlon, also had been born in Ireland. The couple lived in New Jersey and had three children, Margaret, Catherine, and William, Jr. (Billy). After Willie passed away in April of 1975, from lung cancer, Marion moved in with her daughter Catherine in Manchester, Tennessee. Marion died at the age of eighty-one.
