In the early 1930's, she moved to Houston, Texas and united with St John Baptist Church on Gray Street. She met and married James, Gentry Sr on December 22, 1932. To this union, four sons were born: James Jr, Willie Earl, Willie Roy and Samuel Eugene. Her husband, and two sons, Rev James Gentry, Jr and Willie Earl Gentry preceded her in death.
In 1937, she and her family united with St John Missionary Baptist Church on Dowling Street under the pastoral ministry of Rev S.A.Pleasants. She was active in the Senior Mission, Sunday School and other activities of the Church. Mrs Gentry was active in the Trinity Gardens Community where she lived for thirty-five years. She was also the PTA president for a number of years at JC Sanderson Elementary School.
The only job she held after marriage was homemaker. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was really the "Queen" of the Gentry boys and their father. She could get things done and make things happen. From 1980 until 1993 she was a resident at Benner Convalescent Center due to declining health.
She quietly passed away in the sleep, Saturday morning February 13, 1993.
She is survived by two sons; three daughter-in-laws; four grandsons; two granddaughters; two granddaughters-in-law; two great-granddaughters, three sisters; one brother-in-law; two sisters-in-laws; and a host of other relatives and friends.
