Nunzio "Frank" Zappala, age 95, a 50 year resident of Brewster, died June 8, 1999 in West Haverstraw. He was the husband of the late Sara Rose (DeMatteo) Zappala. Mr. Zappala was born August 13, 1903 in Italy, son of the late Santo and Marie Zappala. He came to America when he was 16 years old and lived in the NYC area where he attended schools and graduated from Manhattan College. Mr. Zappala was a licensed electrician and worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #3 in Manhattan for over 50 years, retiring in 1965. On November 28, 1937 he and Mrs. Zappala were married in New York City. She died January 16, 1990. Mr .Zappala was a Charter Member of Brewster Elks Lodge #2101 and was "Elk Of The Year." He was also a member of the Brewster Italian American Club, the Southeast Senior Citizens, and an Honorary Member of Local #3, IBEW He was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster and attended St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville. Mr. Zappala is survived by two daughters, Sandy Stewart of Nanuet, NY and Rosemarie Ravo of Thiells, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 10am at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Brewster. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Brewster.
