Sergeant Apodaca served in Company A, 108 Repair Unit of the Motor Transport Corps. He died from an accident while in France, where he had been since October.

An article in the El Paso Herald on December 12, 1918, which reported his death, indicated that he had been promoted to the rank of Sergeant while en route to France.

His body was returned on the USAT Wheaton, which sailed from Cherbourg, France on May 1, 1921.

According to an article in the El Paso Herald on June 9, 1921, his body arrived in El Paso on June 8 and his funeral was to be held on the afternoon of June 10 at the Peak-Hagedon Chapel.
