MOIRA ANN REDDY-SMITH
Officer Moira Reddy-Smith was killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks while attempting to rescue the victims trapped in the World Trade Center. Officer Reddy-Smith was the first officer to report the terrorist attack when she witnessed the first plane strike the first tower.
She was assigned to the 13th Precinct.
Officer Reddy-Smith had been employed with the New York City Police Department for 13 years, and is survived by her husband, also a New York City Police Officer, and her two-year-old daughter.
Officer Reddy-Smith was posthumously awarded the New York City Police Department's Medal of Honor for her heroic actions.
Officer Reddy-Smith remains were located in March 2002.
