Shirley Anne McCrady Ashworth on was born to Harold McCrady and Audra Bernice Larned McCrady on November 7, 1927 in the brick house on S.W. 10th Street, which still stands today. While attending Corvallis High School, Shirley met Staff Sgt. Howard Ashworth while he was stationed at Camp Adair north of Corvallis. They married Nov. 24th, 1945 after his return from Europe Howard built two homes in Corvallis for Shirley, one on Peavy Arboretum Road where they raised their children, and one on Armstrong Way. They remained married until his death in 1990.

Shirley worked over the years at landmark retail stores, McGregor's, B&H Hardware and the 88 Cent Store. She was also an avid knitter and a keen card player.

Shirley is survived by her children and their spouses, Susan Carpenter of Albany, Dennis (Vivian) of Battle Ground, Washington., Carol Anne (Deral) of Humble, Texas; Glen (Pamela) of Lebanon; nine grand-children, 15 grand-children and one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Ann Hilderbrand (Orval) and Vicki (Michael) Reagan of Pasadena, Texas; and one brother Arthur Spencer (Lorene) Spencer of Albany, Or

In addition to her husband, Shirley was proceeded in death by her brother Del Bryant; sister-in-law Reeta Bryant; and brother-in-law Ovral Hilderbrand.

A celebration-of-life service will be held at 2p.m. Sunday, March 19, at DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home, 815 N.W. Buchanan Ave., Corvallis.
