LaVeen was born on a ranch near Mullen, NE and was raised on a farm near Belvidere, graduating from Belvidere High.

He was a country school teacher for 3 years and later was drafted into the Army where he served as a medical technical in the European Theater during WWII.

After the war he graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce and later served as administrator of Gateway Manor for 16 years prior to his death in 1976 at the age of 54.

He married Mary Lou Suess, 18 Jun 1949, in Hickman, NE.
