Actor. Remembered for his role as 'Philip Marlowe' in the TV series "Philip Marlowe, Private Eye" (1983 and 1986). Born Powers Allen Boothe, his father was a sharecropping farmer, Powers played football during his years at Snyder High School in Texas. After enrolling at Southwest Texas State University, he became interested in acting and began performing in school productions. Fully focusing on a career as an actor, he studied at Southern Methodist University and later acquired experience with the Oregon Shakespeare Company. He made his film debut in "The Goodbye Girl" (1977) and went on to Broadway in the play "Lone Star and Private Wars" (1979). Boothe distinguished himself when he received an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Jim Jones in the TV-Movie "Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones" (1980). He would go on to memorable roles including the voice of 'Gorilla Grodd' in "Justice League" (2002-2003), 'Cy Tolliver' in "Deadwood" (2004-2006), 'Vice President Noah Daniels' in "24" (2007), 'Judge Valentine Hatfield' in "Hatfields & McCoys" (2012), 'Lamar Wyatt' in "Nashville" (2012-2014) and 'Gideon Malick' in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (2015-2016). Among his other film credits include: "Southern Comfort" (1981), "Red Dawn" (1984), "A Breed Apart" (1984), "The Emerald Forest" (1985), "Extreme Prejudice" (1987), "Rapid Fire" (1992), "Tombstone" (1993), "Blue Sky" (1994), "Sudden Death" (1995), "Nixon" (1995), "U Turn" (1997), "Sin City" (2005) and "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" (2014). He died from a heart attack while battling pancreatic cancer.
