Young Meadville Native Still Missing in Hawaii
"Hilo, Hawaii (UPI) - Police said Thursday they still have no clue to the whereabouts of Kenneth Shouey Jr., 33, native of Meadville, Pa., who disappeared June 8 from a store where he was assistant manager and which later was found to have been ransacked.
Police said about $40,000 in jade jewelry and $6,000 in cash was taken from the Payless department store.
Shouey called a burglar alarm company June 8 and asked them to have the store's alarm shut off. The company notified police the following morning when Shouey never called back. Police found the store ransacked.
Shouey's automobile, with blood stains inside, was found abandoned at Hilo Airport. The Honolulu crime laboratory said the blood stains may not be Shouey's. They said the blood was probably Type O, and Shouey was believed to have Type A. A further check was being made of Shouey's military discharge records, police said.
Police Lt. Francis Brown said Shouey's family on the mainland was puzzled by his disappearance. He said friends and associates of the missing man also were puzzled. Shouey led an apparently model life here for the past five years, Brown said."

from a 1980 article on Dennis Jakahi & other missing persons on the Big Island:
"Kenneth Shouey Jr., 33, an assistant manager of Hilo Payless Store, vanished June 8, 1975, following a $17,000 burglary of jewels and cash at the store.
His car, with human blood stains inside, was found later at Hilo Airport parking lot. He was never seen again by friends here or by his family on the Mainland.
Shouey's home was sold the next year at a loss. On Jan 14 this year, Judge Ernest Kubota issued a ruling declaring Shouey legally dead. The judge said he inferred from the evidence on hand that the man's life was taken in the course of a robbery."
