He attended local schools, graduating from Coleman High School in 1954. He attended additional classes for several years, obtaining Master Plumber, Soil Tester and Pump Installer licenses. Bill learned his trade at a young age, often skipping school to fix someone’s faucet or work on a tractor.
The day after his high school graduation he began working at the former Woulf Motors in Pound. After 8 years there, he started his own business known as Borkowski Plumbing and Electric. When his health began to fail, he sold his business to Dama Plumbing of Crivitz and continued working for them as he was able.
Bill was a member of the Coleman School Board for 21 years, an assistant Boy Scout Leader and a member of the first Coleman Rescue Squad. He also served his church as Usher, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer.
He married the former Shirley Vander Bloomer on October 2, 1954 at Section Eight Baptist Church.
She survives along with 5 children: Mike (Cindie), Gillett, WI; Rick (Pam), Crown Point, IN; Scott and Bruce (Bernadette), all of Coleman, WI and Lynn (Keith) Shallow, Suring, WI; 12
grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren;
a sister, Eunice Gross, Pound, WI;
2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Ron (Karyn) Vander Bloomer, Lawton, MI and Ken (Sonia) Vander Bloomer, Tucson, AZ.
Besides his parents and in-laws he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Phyllis, a brother-in-law, Leo Gross and a great grandson, Brady.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 235 E. Main St., Coleman on Friday, May 19th from 2 P.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 6 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Hasse officiating.
Pallbearers will include: Mike, Rick, Scott and Bruce Borkowski, Keith Shallow and Bryan Holtger. Bill will be placed to rest at First Baptist Cemetery, Pound.
