Of social interest to friends throughout this section is the announcement made by Mr. and Mrs. Marion Thomas Dix of Rochelle, Ga., of the engagement of their daughter, Carlynne, of Birmingham to Hugh Powell Carter of Talbotton and Birmingham.

The wedding will be an event of Saturday, September 2, at the home of the bride-elect's uncle, F.D. Morrison, in Birmingham where she has made her home for several years.

Miss Dix's mother is the former Miss Blanche Morrison, daughter of the late Ida Robertson Morrison and William Henley Morrison. Her paternal grandparents are the late Roxie McCall Dix and John Thomas Dix. Theron Ware Dix is Miss Dix's only brother and Ida Roxie Dix is her only sister.

Miss Dix attended the Georgia State Woman's College in Valdosia and Birmingham-Southern College. She is a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, having served one year as president of the chapter.

Mr. Carter is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Grady L. Carter, of Talbotton. His mother is the former Miss Ruth Arnold, daughter of the late Rev. J.W. Arnold and Amanda Powell Arnold. His paternal grandparents are the late John A. Carter and Della Lumsden Carter. Norman King Carter is his only brother.

Mr. Carter is a graduate of Alabama Polytecnic Institute. He is a member of the intercollegiate law fraternity of Sigma Delta Kappa.

Mr. Carter is associated with the law firm of Johnston and Jennings in Birmingham."
