British Navy Admiral. He entered the Navy in 1799. After service in the Miguelist Wars, he took Beirut from the Egyptians. He next took Acre and Sidon with his 84-gun ship, the HMAV Powerful. Upon retirement, he bought an estate where he wrote two books about his Portuguese and Syrian experiences.
