East Haven- Mary Carbone Sorrentino, 94, of 39 Gordon St, died Thursday, March 8, 1990, at her home after a brief illness. She was the widow of Angelo Sorrentino. Mrs. Sorrentino, a daughter of the late Carmen and Grace Carbone, was born in Naples, Italy,July 15,1895, and was a resident of East Haven For More Than 70 years.She was a parishioner at St Vincent De Paul Church.She leaves four daughters, Catherine Sorrentino, Rose Mannochi & Ann Harlow all of East Haven, and Grace Pinski of Branford; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sons, Frank, Anthony & Carmen Sorrentino, two brothers Salvator and Thomas Carbone, and three sisters, Lucy Carbone, Rose Depoto, & Ann Macarelli.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Vincent De Paul's Church, Main Street, Saturday, at 10AM. Burial will follow in St Lawerence Cemetery, West Haven.


Mary came from a lower class family, when she was about 6 years old she came to America via Ellis Island. She Lost her father when she was 17, in 1912. and helped out with her other 5 siblings who were Rose 8, Thomas 7, Annie 5, Salvatore 4, and Lucy who turned 1, 2 weeks after his death. She met Angelo Sorrentino, who was in an orphanage till he was able to get enough money to get here. Together the Had 5 Children, Catherine Sorrentino 1918-1994, Ann Harlow 1920-2005, Grace Pinski 1925- Still Living, and Sons, Carmen 1924-1984, Anthony 1921-1960, & Frank Who was born sick and passed away in infancy. Mary loved her children, they were her life. Mary's husband surrcummed To illness and passed away in 1951. 2 weeks later her daughter in law Vera (Carmen's Wife) passed away of a heart attack. She loved her father in law Angelo so much and we believe hat his death was to much for her to handle. She is buried with Angelo & Mary. Mary's daughter Cathy was special needs and there for Needed much of Mary's attention she would carry Cathy up and down the stairs daily up until the end. She moved to Florida, where she resides for many years, until her son was tragically killed at work in 1960. After this she came back to Connecticut for a short period of time before moving back to Florida. Mary owned many different property in Connecticut and in Florida. She moved back to Connecticut in the early 1980's. There she lived with her grandson Anthony, and His Wife, & 2 Children. Mary remained very independent up until the very end. She was 94 at the time of her passing.
