Folk Singer, Songwriter. LaFave was known for a musical style called "red dirt music", which is commonly associated with legendary artist Woody Guthrie. LaFave began playing the drums in the school band and at the age of 15, switched to guitar and began writing and singing his own songs in a band called The Night Tribe. After graduating high school, he played his music in several night clubs in the Oklahoma area and during this period, he recorded his first album, 'Down Under' in 1979. He would go on to record 14 more albums, among them 'Broken Line' (1981), 'Highway Angels...Full Moon Rain' (1988), 'The Open Road' (1994), 'Burden To Bear' (1995), 'Texoma' (2001), 'Cimarron Manifesto' (2007) and 'The Night Tribe' (2015). LaFave, who was battling cancer, died just three days after attending a sold-out tribute concert that was held in his honor at Austin's Paramount Theatre. He is set to be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame at a ceremony to be held in June, 2017.
