Church Point, LA Funeral services for Evon LeJeune Melancon will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Richard Saturday at 10 a.m. Evon passed away surrounded by family and friends at her residence on March 30. She was born on October 30, 1929 and spent her entire life in Acadia Parish.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cléobule LeJeune and Clémence Thibodeaux; her siblings, Amy LeJeune Bihm, Elmire LeJeune Meche, Bernice LeJeune, Leo LeJeune, and Wallace LeJeune; and her infant son, Kearney. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Norris Melancon; her daughters, Glenda and Sheryl; her son-in-law, Carl Brasseaux; her grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan Brasseaux (Jessika), David Brasseaux (Christi), Christopher Deshotel (Allison), Megan Deshotel Barousse (Koby), and Aimée Brasseaux Hamilton (Jacob); and her fourteen great-grandchildren.
Evon Melancon was a devoted wife and a loving mother, who lived for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic who was sustained by her faith throughout her life.
Viewing will be at Guidry Funeral Home Friday from 1-8 p.m. and Saturday 8 to time of services. Rosary will be recited on Friday at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will include her grandsons, her granddaughters’ spouses, and her godchild, Lyndon LeJeune. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Deshotel, Learlin Bellard, and Jimmy Forrestier.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers—Brandi Stephenson, Samantha Guidroz, Pauline Wheeler, and Eva Goodwin, who were always so patient and loving throughout her illness. The family also expresses special thanks to Harold and Phyllis Deshotel, Chad and Nicole Alleman, and Norma Guilbeau for their kindness and assistance throughout Evon’s long illness.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 7732 Goodwood Blvd., Suite 110, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.
