Son of John C. Sleight and Frances Chesson, husband of Henrietta Wheeler, whom he married on May 29, 1828 at the Methodist Episcopal Church in New York, NY by the Rev. H. Chase, and father of Ann S., Samuel W., Francis C., Barnabas W., Sidney, William, Sarah A. (married Jedidiah Williamson), Charles Mills and Josephine Charlotte Sleight (married Jonas Smith).

Obituary - Captain Samuel C. Sleight died at Stony Brook, Sunday, February 19, after nine years' suffering with paralysis, aged 77 years, 11 months, and 14 days. His widow is one of eight sisters, all living, the oldest of whom is 80 and the youngest 60 years old the first week of April next. All of them have and are now, save the youngest, widows.
