Kay graduated from Milwaukee County General Hospital School of Nursing in 1973; she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration-Hospital Administration in 1986, and went on to obtain her Certification in Hyperbaric Medicine in 1987. Kay excelled in her field, becoming an advocate for health care and an educator in her field.
She served her country as a 2nd Lieutenant Army Nurse. She had worked at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga., where she was one of the three RNs selected to open the first hyperbaric facility in Georgia. She shared responsibility for the design, base inventory, policies and procedures and safety compliances. She later worked at the Atlanta Hyperbaric Unit and was responsible for the original set up of the hyperbaric unit.
She had married Billy "Ray" Blocker Jr. and later divorced but remained very close. She rescued lives of many on a cruise ship by taking control of passengers with the help of her then husband, Ray.
She enjoyed tracing her family history back to the McShane Clan in Northern Ireland and of her mother's side Lauback family of Budingen, Hessen, Germany, educating others, volunteering for the Red Cross, boating, fishing, swimming and traveling. She loved nature, especially songbirds and her cats. She attended First United Methodist Church of Menominee where she loved singing in the choir and where she met her dear friend, Diane Larsen.
