Dr. Armstrong was born in Springfield, MO, July 17, 1940, as the youngest of five siblings, and died in Winter Park, FL, on June 8, 2017 of respiratory problems complicated by malnourishment. He was preceded in death by his father, O.K. Armstrong, and his mother, Louise McCool Armstrong who died of cancer in 1947, and step-mother Marjorie Moore Armstrong, and older sister Louise Armstrong Catton who died of cancer in 1979. Older brothers Milton M. Armstrong, O.K. Armstrong Jr, and W. Stanley Armstrong, survive him. He was married and divorced.
Dr. Armstrong graduated from Central HS in Springfield, Mo in 1958; attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, on full scholarship and graduated in 1962. He attended the University of Missouri Medical School graduating in 1966. He was a flight surgeon in Vietnam in 1968-69 with a helicopter unit of the 3ed US Army located at Can To Air Force Base. Capt. Armstrong made many rescue runs and was loved by the flight crews. When the brass found out about it he was grounded.
He practiced medicine in Winter Park, FL, and Atlanta, GA before opening a family medicine practice in Alexandria, VA for nearly 20 years.
