Charles C. Lytle, 88 of 4225 Sutro, Los Angeles, Calif., a former long time police detective in Topeka, and one time Kansas State Fire Marshal, died Saturday October 11, 1969 in Queen of Angels Hospital. He had been in ill health about a year.
He was born March 30, 1881 at Murfreesboro, Tenn. He lived most of his life at Topeka until he moved to Los Angeles in 1964. He retired from the Topeka Police department in June 1947, after 42 years as a peace officer. He had been a deputy marshall of the Court of Topeka, a chief of detectives for the police department, a deputy sheriff, deputy state fire marshall, and a city detective.
Mr. Lytle operated a barbershop and a drug store in the 100 block on East 4th street after retirement until he moved to California. Mr. Lytle was a member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge No. 5 at Topeka.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond R. Lytle of Salt Lake City Utah and John R. Lytle of Los Angeles; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Mills and Mrs. Lutie McKissack both of Las Vegas, Nevada. One sister, Miss Corrinne Lytle of Brooklyn, N.Y. and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Church of Christ and burial in Rosedale Cemetery, Los Angeles, Calif. Connor-Johnson Mortuary of Los ngeles was in charge of arrangements.
