Kathaleen A. Ross passed away peacefully Saturday, August 5, 2017 in Sioux Falls. She was 82 years.

Kathaleen Annabelle Lee Cook was born May 4, 1935 to Leo Francis Cook and Katherine Matilda (Fjerestad) Cook in Deadwood/Lead, SD. She grew up for the majority of her life in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended Longfellow Elementary grade school and graduated from Washington High School in 1953. She worked for Fenn’s Ice Cream Company as a teenager.

She was united in marriage to Lester Dale Ross on March 19, 1955 at First Lutheran Church. The couple made their first home in San Diego. They returned to Sioux Falls in July, 1956 to stay. In June 1958, Dale was involved in a tragic car accident that would change the course of their lives together.

She retired from Good Samaritan Society in 1999 following Dale’s decline in health to take care of him.

Kathaleen has been a member of First Lutheran Church since 1944. She sang in the adult choir until the age of 70 when she said she could no longer reach the high notes. She continued her love of music through her long-time attendance at the Sioux Falls Symphony, Floor 1, Orch Right, Row M Seats 32 and 33. She always had an extra ticket to include a family member or a friend. She also attended the Community Concert Series and the Sioux Falls Municipal Band whenever possible.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Kim Ross of Sioux Falls, SD, Cindy Ross of Sioux Falls, SD, Clifford (Dawn) Ross of Worthington, MN, and Chip (Mary Holm) Ross of Fargo, ND; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Darleen (Rodney, Sr.) Smart of Sioux Falls, SD and Leonard Cook of Marion, IA; and her feline companion Bouncer.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Dale Ross; her parents, Leo and Katherine Cook; mother and father-in-law, Lester C. and Wilma Ross; her brother-in-law, Arnold Albers; her brother Leon Cook and his wife Julain; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service 11:00 am Thursday, August 10, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, 327 S. Dakota Ave., Sioux Falls. Visitation 5:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.
