July 28, 1920 to July 30, 2017

Emaline "Lynn" Ream was born July 28, 1920, the eighth of 12 children born to Fahmey and Najeeb "Ned" Farah, Lebanese immigrants. Their southeast Portland home was rich in Old Country traditions, but they were proud to be Americans.

From a young age, Lynn worked at her uncle's store and gave half her money to her mother, whom she adored. The Farah family loved going to the Bob White Theater and having friends over for fresh-baked bread and card games. During World War II Lynn worked at the shipyards and earned the right to launch a Navy ship with her award-winning bond sales.

Lynn loved music and dancing. She saw all the big bands perform at Jantzen Beach during the 1940-'50s;

Frankie, Dino, and Sammy were also her favorites.

A special memory was when Sergio Frankie brought her up on stage and together they tripped the light fantastic.

Lynn met her husband of 50 years, John B Ream Jr., at a local dance. They raised five children in Lake Oswego: Cynthia (Roderick), Nancy (Charles), Sharon (Philip), Karen (Michael), and Jimmy. They have ten grandchildren: Cole (Jibek), Clair (Jason), Leif (LiXia), Johnny, Carolyn, John, Peter, Garrison, Zack and Matt. Sithee (Lynn) held her first great-grandchild, Sofia, days before her passing. Lynn has two remaining siblings, Fritz and Jeanette.

Lynn loved humor, flowers, and playing cards. Top priorities were time with her family and weekly bridge groups. She bounced back from many health challenges, focusing on the blessings life had given her. Making the best Lebanese food was her gift to the world.

Lynn donated regularly to child-centered charities.

She personally met President Obama and many other admired dignitaries in her exciting lifetime.

Lynn believed in rights to health care, education, and other progressive causes. She worked as a banquet manager to help finance her children's college education. She loved with her whole heart, which continues to beat in those whose lives she touched.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center at 2 p.m. on Aug. 11, 2017. Donations may be given to Shriners Hospital.
