Born in Petersburg, he was the son of George and Minnie Johnson Meyer.
He was a member of Central Lodge 71, AF&AM, Springfield Ansar Shrine, Ansar Drum & Bugle Corps, and the United Pentecostal Church.
He was a steamfitter with Local 137.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; two sons, David R. and Michael, both of Springfield; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Hickson, Mrs. Violet Hickson and Mrs. Marie Brockman, all of Springfield; a brother, Hubert of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and an uncle.
Services were at Ellinger-Kunz & Davis Funeral Home.
Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
