Donna (Larson) Eckman (95) of Moxee passed away peacefully in the Living Care Center in Yakima on November 19, 2016. Donna was the oldest of 5 children born February 12, 1921 to Albert and Ella Larson.
She is together again with her husband, Lawrence Eckman, who passed away in March of 1992 and her son, Ray Eckman, who passed away in December of 1973. Donna and Lawrence were married Oct 1, 1939. She was born in Grace, Idaho but spent most of her life in Moxee, WA where she raised 4 children.
Donna was very active. She loved dancing, bowling, fishing, camping and gardening (she shucked a lot of corn) but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren. When she was young she went to work for Yakima Tent and Awning Company making tents for WWII. Later she started her own drapery shop "Donna's Drapery's" which she operated well into her 80's. She was an avid Mariners fan - even if she couldn't stay awake for the entire game, or the first inning. She loved to cook huge meals for family and friends. If you told her you liked something she made sure you had enough to last you months (Amish Bread, Apple Rings, Beef Jerky, Spaghetti Squash, etc.).
She was "Grandma Donna" to everyone that knew her. Grandma Donna became an internet sensation thanks to Facebook where she now has friends from coast-to-coast. She was well known for her crocheted kitchen towels, jelly bean pooping ducks and her rosette cookies at Christmas time. The only time she complained was when her "football knee" or "clam digging hip" was acting up. Grandma Donna will be sorely missed. She was a warm, caring, generous person who made everyone feel special in their own way.
She is survived by her children Larry (Joan) Eckman of Yakima, Tammi (Darren) Waterbury of Moxee, and Todd (Missy) Eckman of Richland. Grandchildren Dale (Tricia) Eckman, Don (Becky) Eckman, Ashlee (Max) Silva, Colton (Calle) Eckman, Kristi (Patrick) Russell, Dilan Waterbury, Devin Waterbury, Darin Waterbury, Peyton Eckman, Mallory Eckman, Cody Mitchell, Josh Shields and a growing number of great-great-grandkids. She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Eckman, her son Ray Eckman, her daughter-in-law Farrell Eckman, her brother Bud Larson, her sisters Dora Kobli, Arvella Carlson and Phyllis Himes, and great-granddaughter Randa Eckman.
A special thanks to the employees of the Living Care Center in Yakima. All of you made her last 9 years more than we could have hoped for. You took excellent care of her and she enjoyed being there. Thank you for taking care of our Grandma Donna.
There will be a Celebration of Grandma Donna Eckman on Saturday December 3rd at the Terrace Heights Grange 3701 Birchfield Rd Yakima WA from 1:00pm to 4:00pm with Grandma Donna stories starting at 2:00pm.
