Rock Musician. He was best known as the lead guitarist and founder of the Southern rock icon Molly Hatchet. After a series of moves around the country, he and his family came back to his birthplace of Jacksonville, Florida in 1965. In 1971 he founded the band Molly Hatchet and the other members of the band joined several years later (Danny Joe Brown and Steve Holland in 1974 and Duane Roland, Banner Thomas, and Bruce Crump in 1976). He was not only the group's lead vocalist, but its main songwriter. They released their debut self-titled album in 1978 and then a year later, their biggest hit "Flirtin' with Disaster" was part of their second album. Their other hits included "Gator Country," "Whiskey Man," and "Fall of the Peacemakers." He left the band in 1986 due to various problems and was replaced by Bobby Ingram. He started performing with other musicians and nineteen years later he was asked by Bobby Ingram to rejoin Molly Hatchet. By this time, due to health issues, he had slowed down with touring and flying. He was still an active member of the group, recording and playing when possible, until his passing. He also wrote soundtracks for several feature films and had seven gold and platinum selling albums with sales totaling approximately 24 million in album sales.
