PHILIP H. HUGHES DEAD

Philip Henry Hughes, Pasadena, Tex., formerly of Emporia, died Thursday morning in Pasadena after suffering a stroke.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Earthman Chapel, Pasadena, and burial will be in the Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, Tex.

Philip (Phil) Hughes was the son of the late Walter E. Hughes, for many years the business manager of The Gazette, and Mrs. Hughes. He was born Feb. 19th, 1906, in Emporia, and he was married to Christine Hausam in June, 1933, in Emporia. After his graduation from the University of Missouri, he was employed in the advertising department of The Gazette for six years, then moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he was on the staff of a national advertising agency for several years. During World War II, he served with the Army in the Pacific Theater. For the past 12 years, he had lived in Pasadena, where he was a salesman for the Western Auto Supply Company. He was preceded in death by his first wife and he is survived by his second wife, Marie [Aurora Marie Ludwig], and a daughter Josephine Marie, of the home, 3104 Darling St., Pasadena, and two aunts, Miss Frances Mackenzie, Houston, and Miss Mary Hughes, 803 West Sixth Ave.
