Politician. She was a Member of British Parliament. Lady Megan Lloyd George received recognition as being the first Welsh female member of British Parliament. Born the youngest of five children of David Lloyd George, the only Welshman to ever served prime minister of England, her name at birth was registered as "Megan Arvon George", but she was known as "Megan Lloyd George". Until the age of four, she spoke only the Welsh language. The last of Liberal Party to hold the office, her father was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1916 to 1922. After her father was raised to the peerage as Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor, she was accorded the style of Lady Megan Lloyd George. She served as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party when only 12 members of the Liberal Party were in Parliament. After losing a re-election, she defected from the Liberal Party to the Labor Party in 1955. In 1957, she stood against the Liberals as the Labor Party candidate at a by-election in Carmarthen and was elected to the seat, which she held until her death from breast cancer in 1966. During her political career, she was one of the most inspirational speakers and radio broadcasters, a true heir to her father's social and political beliefs. She spoke regularly on issues such as agriculture, Welsh affairs and, increasingly, the rights of women. In 1919 she accompanied her father to the Paris Peace Conference after the end of World War I, witnessing international affairs first hand. Without losing her popularity, she refused to support the National Labor Party Government of Ramsay MacDonald. She had a very public 20-year romantic relationship with 1959 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Philip Noel-Baker, which ended with his wife's death in 1956. She received the honor from Queen Elizabeth II a posthumous appointment as a Companion of Honor in the Dissolution Honors List published five days after her death. In 2016, she was listed as one of "the 50 greatest Welsh men and women of all time". She was buried in her family's plot.
