Jerry was born on Feb. 28, 1945, and lived his entire life in Johnsburg, Minnesota. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War (serving from January 1967 to January 1968) and he loved to share his story with all who would listen. Jerry was well-known for his beautiful scroll sawing and woodworking and he had a great passion for life and his family. Jerry was a good friend to many and could always be counted on for a laugh even in his final days.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Carol Matheis of Johnsburg; three children, Brenda (Tom) McHugh of St. Peter, Minnesota, Joe (Kristina) Matheis of Johnsburg, and Betsy (Ben) Geer of Mankato, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard "Dick" Matheis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his name to The Fisher House, Director (00) One Veteran Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417.
